Meet Maggie Bonjour, my name is Maggie and I am a Basset Hound. I am French and I live near Marseille which is in the South of France, on the Mediterranean Sea. "Fine", I can hear you say,"so what's so special about her?" WELL .... what is so special about ME is that I am 17 (yes, seventeen) years old! I was born in December 1989 and I reckon that is a pretty good age for a basset (or any dog for that matter). I live with a very kind person and four other dogs - all much younger than myself of course. There are Jezabel and Julio, basset brother and sister who are 12 years old, there is Osiris, also a basset, then there is Plessy - she's a boxer, but she thinks she's a basset. I was quite petite for a basset - maybe that's the secret of my long life. When I was younger I was a lovely tricolor, now I'm mostly gray. I cannot see anymore but that doesn't bother me at all. My joints are a bit stiff but that does not stop me from going up and down steps into the garden.
Originally I was bought from a pet shop near Cannes by an Italian but the family didn't like me so when I was about a year old they gave me away and here is where I have been ever since. I wonder where that family is now? I'm sure they'd be surprised to know that I am still around! Last week Penny and Polly came to visit me. I know their mistress since .... woof! She likes me a lot and is always telling my mistress that if she no longer wants me, there's a home for me with Penny and Polly.
I have no idea how much longer I will be around but I have already started making preparations for my 18th birthday - wanna come and join in the festivities?

I can still find my way around the place. Sometimes I get lost in the garden but my mistress comes and finds me and points me in the right direction. 
I had never met Penny and Polly before but I really liked them, especially Penny.
